I am writing a small applet and want to be able to send SMS messages to a predefined telephone number. What would be the best way to integrate this functionality into my program? I use a website or a download applet that facilitates the sending of SMS text messages over the Internet?

I doubt you can do so free like someone to cover the cost of sending the SMS itself. You can do this by placing his mobile phone to the PC and the software as follows:

can be very expensive as you pay for each text message to the operator tarrif norm and not the integration of the software in its implementation.
The other option is to make the API for a service that already exists (as http://www.txtlocal.co.uk/sms-api.php use) and news about them. I do not know if it's a free service or not, but worth considering.
